Los ensayos mostraron que estos extractos pose\u00edan una cierta capacidad antimicrobiana, por lo que fue necesario aislar y analizar el compuesto activo, la alicina. Debido a la dificultad de aislar la alicina en estado puro a partir del extracto natural, se opt\u00f3 por la s\u00edntesis qu\u00edmica de la misma. la alicina fue sintetizada por peroxidaci\u00f3n del disulfuro de dialilo en un medio bif\u00e1sico usando un reactivo de transferencia de fase. La alicina as\u00ed obtenida fue identificada por los medios usuales en qu\u00edmica org\u00e1nica. Tambi\u00e9n se ajustaron las cantidades de reactivos para optimizar el m\u00e9todo. Adem\u00e1s se desarrollaron y optimizaron m\u00e9todos anal\u00edticos (espectrofotometr\u00eda y cromatograf\u00eda hplc) para medir la alicina usada en los ensayos. despu\u00e9s de sintetizada y valorada se realizaron los ensayos microbiol\u00f3gicos con la alicina. Se hicieron estudios de inhibici\u00f3n sobre 37 cepas de staphylococcus epidermidis. Durante los ensayos se observ\u00f3 una importante disminuci\u00f3n en la formaci\u00f3n del biofilm en las cepas productoras, por lo que se hizo un estudio detallado de la inhibici\u00f3n de estas biocapas a diferentes concentraciones de alicina. finalmente, se hizo un estudio comparativo de la producci\u00f3n del exopolisac\u00e1rido conocido como pia (polysaccharide intercellular adhesin)
