La iniciacion de las raices laterales no ocurre cuando las celulas del periciclo se dividen periclinalmente, sino cuando dos celulas vecinas situadas en la misma columna y enfrentadas a uno de los polos de xilema o floema se dividen transversal y asimetricamente. La dinamica proliferativa de las celulas del periciclo durante la iniciacion de las raices laterales sigue un patron bien definido.
