Entre sus m\u00faltiples efectos secundarios, el m\u00e1s importante es la retinopat\u00eda t\u00f3xica en la que sabemos acontece una destrucci\u00f3n de los fotorreceptores y de las c\u00e9lulas ganglionares de la retina. mecanismo vascular: en la hipertensi\u00f3n arterial cr\u00f3nica se afectan la retina-coroides y el nervio \u00f3ptico, siendo su mecanismo patog\u00e9nico la p\u00e9rdida de autorregulaci\u00f3n del \u00e1rbol vascular retiniano, la disrupci\u00f3n de la barrera hematorretiniana, la oclusi\u00f3n de las arteriolas terminales y el amento de sustancias vasopresoras en la retina secundarias a la hipertensi\u00f3n arterial. Todo ello lleva a la p\u00e9rdida de fibras nerviosas de la retina y sus somas, las c\u00e9lulas ganglionares, entre otros. mecanismo inflamatorio: la esclerosis m\u00faltiple es una enfermedad progresiva del sistema nervioso central que cursa con una fase aguda inflamatoria y una fase final de gliosis, desmielinizaci\u00f3n, y degeneraci\u00f3n axonal que en el caso de la neuritis \u00f3ptica (principal manifestaci\u00f3n ocular) afectar\u00e1 a las fibras nerviosas de la retina. polarimetr\u00eda l\u00e1ser: t\u00e9cnica basada en el fen\u00f3meno de la birrefringencia dise\u00f1ada espec\u00edficamente para el estudio cuantitativo (espesores) de la capa de fibras nerviosas de la retina.   objetivos: 1-. Evaluar la utilidad de la polarimetr\u00eda l\u00e1ser en el estudio de la capa de estos tres grupos de pacientes comparando sus hallazgos con los obtenidos mediante otras t\u00e9cnicas exploratorias ya validadas.                         2-. Desarrollar protocolos de diagn\u00f3stico y seguimiento eficaces para estos pacientes.  m\u00e9todo: estudio observacional, transversal y anal\u00edtico de una serie de casos en el que se estudia la agudeza visual, la sensibilidad al contraste, la visi\u00f3n crom\u00e1tica y el espesor de la capa de fibras nerviosas de la retina, entre otros, de 40 pacientes en tratamiento con antipal\u00fadicos, 40 pacientes hipertensos, 40 pacietes con esclerosis m\u00faltiple y 30 individuos sanos.  conclusiones: la polarimetr\u00eda l\u00e1ser es una t\u00e9cnica capaz de detectar la p\u00e9rdida de fibras nerviosas de la retina secundaria a los tres mecanismos fisiopatol\u00f3gicos a estudio: t\u00f3xico, vascular e inflamatorio.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de
