Una de las mejores alternativas para combatir los efectos perjudiciales de esta plaga es el cultivo de variedades o h\u00edbridos comerciales con resistencia a pulg\u00f3n. En este trabajo se ha estudiado el modo de herencia de la resistencia a esta especie de pulg\u00f3n en el genotipo de mel\u00f3n llamado tgr-1551. Estos estudios han revelado que la resistencia a a. Gossypii est\u00e1 controlada por un \u00fanico gen dominante que, de acuerdo a las pruebas de alelismo realizadas, parece ser el mismo que el ya descrito gen vat. Tambi\u00e9n se han estudiado los mecanismos de resistencia frente a a. Gossypii presentes en este genotipo de mel\u00f3n. Se ha realizado una caracterizaci\u00f3n morfol\u00f3gica e histoqu\u00edmica de la superficie foliar y se ha descrito, por primera vez en mel\u00f3n, la existencia de tricomas glandulares. Estos tricomas se encuentran en mayor cantidad en los genotipos resistentes y exudan sustancias que parecen influenciar el comportamiento del pulg\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n se han detectado y caracterizado mecanismos de resistencia inducidos frente a la infestaci\u00f3n con pulg\u00f3n que parecen estar relacionados con la presencia del gen vat estos mecanismos consisten en la aparici\u00f3n r\u00e1pida e intensa de eventos asociados a mecanismos de respuesta hipersensible. Experimentos adicionales han revelado que la respuesta hipersensible es especifica frente a la actividad de prueba de la especie de pulg\u00f3n a. Gossypii y, de acuerdo a los experimentos realizados mediante t\u00e9cnicas de \u00abgr\u00e1ficos de penetraci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica\u00bb (epg), la respuesta de la planta parece iniciarse
