Su labor se desarrolla mayoritariamente en la catedral de santiago de cuba, donde organiza y dirige oficialmente la capilla de m\u00fasica entre 1764 y 1803, lo que constituye el primer referente fehaciente de la ense\u00f1anza, interpretaci\u00f3n y composici\u00f3n de m\u00fasica acad\u00e9mica en la isla. la presente tesis doctoral se sustenta en el resultado de 10 a\u00f1os de investigaci\u00f3n en los archivos que contienen la obra musical y la documentaci\u00f3n relativa al desempe\u00f1o de esteban salas como compositor y maestro de capilla. Entre 2001 y 2006, con el respaldo de la universidad de valladolid (espa\u00f1a), la oficina del historiador de la ciudad de la habana y el centro de investigaci\u00f3n y desarrollo de la m\u00fasica cubana, se publicaron 106 obras completas de esteban salas en siete vol\u00famenes editoriales como parte de la colecci\u00f3n m\u00fasica sacra de cuba, siglo xviii. De estas obras, 33 fueron interpretadas en versi\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica y grabadas en tres discos compactos por el conjunto de m\u00fasica antigua ars longa, que dirige teresa paz. La experiencia pr\u00e1ctica junto al conocimiento en el campo te\u00f3rico son el fundamento para definir en forma sistem\u00e1tica y contextualizada los aspectos que caracterizan el repertorio de
