Dielectric properties of natural rubber-cellulose ii nanocomposites

Tesis doctoral de María Pilar Ortiz Serna

In the present work nanocomposites obtained from natural rubber (nr) reinforced with different amounts of regenerated cellulose (cellulose ii) were investigated by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (nmr), infrared spectroscopy (ir), transmission electron microscopy (tem), differential scanning calorimetry (dsc), dielectric spectroscopy (ds) and high pressure dielectric spectroscopy (hpds) techniques. For comparative purpose, pure materials nr and cellulose ii were also investigated. Cellulose nanoparticles were used in the range of 0 to 30 parts per hundred parts (phr) of nr. The description of the materials and the experimental techniques is described in chapter 2. in chapter 3 is presented the study of pure materials, nr and cellulose ii. The characterization was made by nmr, ir, dsc, ds and hpds techniques. The ds data interpretation was required to understand the relaxations processes that occur in the nanocomposites. in chapter 4 is shown the influence of the cellulose ii nanoparticles on the nr glass transition temperature (tg) studied by dsc, and the influence in the nr dielectric behaviour studied by ds. Tem was employed as complementary technique to clarify the size and dispersion of the cellulose nanoparticles in the nr matrix. As cellulose ii is a very hydrophilic polymer, samples were dried and measured in the same way that the wet ones. Therefore, the effect of the water present in the nr-cell nanocomposites on the relaxation processes as well as in the dielectric properties was also studied in this chapter. finally we present some general conclusions about the experimental techniques and the materials under study.
