Caracterización de las propiedades del hormigón autocompactante asociadas al esqueleto granular

Tesis doctoral de Ana Carlolina Parapinski Dos Santos

The design and the characterization of self compacting concrete (scc) influences not only the mix components (paste volume and nature; binder amount and type; granular skeleton, etc) but also the testing methods that used to validate the self-compactability (usually in terms of fluidity, viscosity and resistance to segregation) in general, scc mix designs are extrapolations of conventional mix designs adapted with empirical criteria to change the fresh state characteristics. However, this approach usually fails to take into account the casting system. this thesis covers the indirect influence of the cast system based on the consideration of two types of granular skeleton: discontinuous and continuous, for different strength levels (30 and 60 mpa). In this sense, the discontinuous skeleton responds to a pumping cast system whereas the continuous skeleton fits a direct cast system by gravity using a crane and hopper. the study was based on a wide experimental campaign. The results obtained allow the analysis of the characteristics that govern the fresh, hardened and long term behavior of scc. for the both strength levels studied, the mix with continuous granular skeleton associated with a direct cast system by gravity exhibited slightly higher segregation resistance and mechanical properties as well as slightly smaller creep than mixes with discontinuous granular skeleton. nevertheless, the results show that the slump flow test is not sensitive enough to reveal the segregation in fresh state concrete, especially in high fluidity scc. Thus, in order to address this issue a simple apparatus and a rapid method for testing the segregation resistance of scc were developed in this study. Since the method is simple and due to its economy, it can be directly used in the construction site for an acceptance or rejection of the segregation criteria for scc.
